Tomorrow's Engineers Today
- Every year we host a one day event for elementary, middle, and high school girls to learn and get excited about a career in STEM.
- This event includes:
- Fun experiments
- Laboratory tours & demos
- Presentations on various engineering majors
- Insight for parents about the field of engineering & the University of Tennessee Tickle College of Engineering

Tomorrow's Engineers Today 2020
At the 2020 Tomorrow’s Engineers Today, over 100 elementary, middle, and high school girls came to the Tickle College of Engineering campus to learn what it is like to be an engineer.

They performed a variety of group oriented science experiments that challenged them to problem solve. The fan favorite was the egg drop, where the girls designed a device to protect an egg from breaking when it was dropped from a certain height. Another was the marshmallow challenge, where a tower had to be built using only tape , string, and spaghetti noodles that could support a marshmallow without falling.
They also learned how to wire a circuit, and learned about chemical reactions by making their own lava lamps. The students also got to see some cool STEM related demonstrations, such as a robot designed and built by the first robotics team, and the fake human cadaver MABEline from the biomedical engineering department.
The fan favorite demonstration was the Planetarium, where they got to learn about constellations, moon phases, and planets. They also had the opportunity to see a real moon rock! Overall, it was a great event and our SWE volunteers enjoyed inspiring the future generation of women engineers.
