"I enjoy being a SWEeties mentor because of the chance it provides to give back and empower other women to continue their path in engineering. It is very rewarding to pass on the knowledge I have learned over my time at UT and wish I had as a freshman. SWEeties also helps freshmen (and their mentors!) get plugged into SWE and make lifelong friends." - Hannah Hajdik |
"SWEeties allowed me to get closer to and become friends with an upperclassman with a similar major to mine. I was able to learn a lot from her, listening to her experiences in her own classes and co-op adventure. She helped me organize my goals for my college experience, which helped immensely with how overwhelming the first year of college can be. Balancing school work with a social life is tough, and scheduled weekly meetups were a fun thing to look forward to in the midst of homework and upcoming tests. I will never regret joining the SWEeties program!" - Oriana Palumbo |

"SWEeties didn’t only give me the opportunity to have a mentor and a role model, but the chance to gain a lifetime long friend. Throughout my freshman year, I was able to turn to her for advice on any and all subject matters. I was even able to land a graduate research position and an internship the summer following my freshman year thanks to her help with my resume, interview skills, elevator pitch, and more. She, along with the SWEeties program, was definitely a highlight of my freshman year and I am so grateful I became a part of the SWE community. " - Kalina Scarbrough
"SWEeties has made such a positive impact in my life because it encouraged me to step outside of my comfort zone and get involved in our section's events and activities on campus. Each semester's list of goals helped me understand my major more, get involved in other engineering organizations on campus, and connect me to other women in my major who also served as mentors to me. I really enjoyed volunteering in SWE's outreach events with my mentor by my side and learning how to network and write a resume from my mentor. These lessons showed me how the program impacts girls in STEM on a larger scale by getting them career ready from Day 1. My mentor provided me with so many resources to help me in my engineering classes as well as plan for my future here at UT. Not only has my SWEetie been an amazing mentor but she has also been a wonderful friend who has met me for many study dates in the student union and the SWE lounge, as well as SWE parties and banquets. She has pushed me to volunteer and go out for leadership positions. Without her advice and support, I would not have had the courage to study abroad the summer after my freshman year or serve as a SWEeties chair for this upcoming year. I am so looking forward to this program continuing to grow and impact the lives of women in engineering!" - Megan Hines
